BIKiNNOV Hosts Public Presentation of a Foresight Study on the Regulatory Future of the Bicycle Industry

BIKiNNOV made its mark at S4i in Madrid with innovative technologies for bicycle mobility

BIKiNNOV, in partnership with ABIMOTA, will host on February 20 at 2:00 p.m., at its premises, a national event dedicated to the normative and regulatory framework of the two-wheel industry.

The program includes the presentation of the main results of the study developed by BIKiNNOV, followed by a guided tour of its facilities, allowing participants to gain first-hand insight into the work carried out by the Technology and Innovation Center (CTI) in applying standards, developing products and processes, and ensuring compliance with the international regulatory framework.

The event will conclude with a closed meeting for members of Technical Committee 103 (CT103), responsible for drafting normative documents in the field of two-wheel vehicles, with the aim of ensuring balanced representation of the socio-economic interests involved and market acceptance of standards.

With this initiative, BIKiNNOV aims to bring together companies, associations, policymakers, and other stakeholders from the mobility and industrial ecosystem, fostering reflection and debate on the regulatory future of the sector.

Participation in the event is free of charge but subject to registration via the following link: https://forms.office.com/e/y5E0fTSsCM.

This event takes place within the scope of project 006ANI – Action Line 3 – Standards Monitoring, integrated into the Interface Mission – Base Funding for Technology and Innovation Centers and funded by the PRR – Recovery and Resilience Plan and by the European Union’s NextGeneration EU funds.

About the Study

BIKiNNOV – Bike Value Innovation Center Association presents the “Foresight Study on the Impact of Normative and Regulatory Frameworks on the Future Competitiveness of the Bicycle Industry,” a strategic initiative carried out in partnership with RdA – Climate Solutions, analyzing the evolution of European political, regulatory, and normative frameworks impacting the two-wheel sector.

Developed within the scope of the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR) and the Interface Mission, the study aims to strengthen BIKiNNOV’s capacity to support Portuguese companies in anticipating new regulatory requirements and adapting to a European context marked by profound environmental, industrial, and digital transformations.

The work focused on European policies published between 2021 and 2024, recently adopted regulations with direct impact on the industry — including areas such as batteries, circular economy, chemicals, and critical raw materials — as well as a broad set of technical standards applicable to the sector.

Through a structured methodological approach, the study mapped emerging trends, assessed the level of political pressure associated with different European initiatives, and analyzed their potential impact on the competitiveness of the national industry.

The report also includes a proposal for a strategic regulatory monitoring plan, which will serve as the foundation for the development of a future BIKiNNOV Standards Monitoring System. This tool aims to strengthen the sector’s capacity to monitor developments, adapt proactively, and actively participate in shaping European policies and technical standards.

Through this initiative, BIKiNNOV reaffirms its role as a Technology and Innovation Center, promoting knowledge transfer, regulatory compliance, and the strengthening of the competitiveness of the Portuguese bicycle industry in an increasingly demanding international context.
