MobiThinks Launch: Think Tanks on Sustainable Mobility on March 9–10
On March 9 and 10, BIKiNNOV launches MobiThinks, a series of meetings dedicated to debating and developing solutions for more sustainable and inclusive mobility in cities. These think tanks bring together experts, policymakers, and interested members of the public to discuss urban challenges and propose innovative strategies that promote cycling and other forms of active transport.
The two-day program includes four think tanks, each addressing strategic themes. On the first day, the morning session will focus on “Women and Cycling,” examining the barriers that limit women’s use of bicycles, including issues of safety, comfort, accessibility, and urban design. The session aims to highlight the role of women in promoting sustainable mobility, encouraging their active participation in urban planning and proposing inclusive policies that ensure a more equitable and safe environment.
In the afternoon, the focus will shift to “School Mobility,” where solutions will be discussed to make home-to-school journeys safer and more sustainable. Topics include road safety, congestion, and dependence on individual transport. This session also aims to strengthen the role of schools, families, and municipalities in promoting active mobility habits from an early age, contributing to children’s autonomy and health.
On the second day, the morning session will be dedicated to “Health, Well-being and the Bicycle,” exploring the physical and mental benefits of active mobility, the prevention of chronic diseases, and improvements in urban quality of life. Public policies and case studies from cities that have successfully implemented cycling programs will be analyzed, highlighting their positive impact on communities.
In the afternoon, the think tank “Promoting Autonomy through the Bicycle” will discuss how cycling can serve as a tool for independence and inclusion for people with reduced mobility, older adults, and caregivers. The session will cover technological and adaptive design solutions, safe infrastructure, and public policies that ensure equitable mobility for all, while also sharing successful case studies demonstrating the positive impact of these approaches.
With this initiative, BIKiNNOV aims to create a space for dialogue and collaboration that contributes to the development of innovative urban policies and practices capable of making cities more accessible, sustainable, and citizen-centered. MobiThinks thus represents an important step toward building healthier, more inclusive, and resilient urban communities, with the bicycle as a central element of social and environmental transformation.
This initiative is part of project 004ANI – Future Smart Cities, integrated into the Interface Mission – Base Funding for Technology and Innovation Centers, funded by the PRR – Recovery and Resilience Plan and NextGenerationEU.
