BIKiNNOV presents technological capabilities to support the development of the bicycle of the future

At EuroBike 2026, the Centre presents the investments made under AM2R, highlighting the acquisition of a Wind Tunnel that will provide the industry with new testing, validation, and aerodynamic optimisation capabilities.

BIKiNNOV was present at EuroBike 2026, one of the largest international trade fairs in the two-wheel sector, to present the strengthening of its technological capabilities, developed under the Mobilising Agenda for Business Innovation in the Two-Wheel Sector (AM2R).

This investment represents a strategic step towards consolidating BIKiNNOV as a leading technological infrastructure, ready to support manufacturers, suppliers, and R&D partners in the development of increasingly efficient, safe, and competitive bicycles, components, and systems.

Among the new capabilities, the acquisition of a Wind Tunnel stands out. This innovative, tailor-made infrastructure, developed using national engineering and companies, will provide the industry with advanced aerodynamic testing, which is essential for optimising the performance and resistance of bicycles and components, assessing their stability, and generating technical data to support the development of high-performance products. In addition to research and development, this infrastructure may also support competition teams in optimising ergonomics, the athlete’s position, and performance in a competitive context.

The investment in these new capabilities responds to the evolution of the two-wheel industry, where technological innovation often arises from competition and the constant search for lighter, faster, more efficient, and more sustainable solutions. By making these infrastructures available in Portugal, BIKiNNOV will help national companies accelerate the development of new products and compete in higher value-added segments, while also strengthening their position in international markets.

In this context, BIKiNNOV’s participation in EuroBike 2026 was also marked by the visit of Taiwan’s Vice Minister of Economic Affairs, Cynthia Kiang, to the Centre’s stand. This meeting took place within the scope of the ongoing cooperation between BIKiNNOV and its counterpart organisation in Taiwan, reinforcing the relationship between the two entities and their joint commitment to technological development, innovation, and the internationalisation of the bicycle industry. The visit provided an opportunity to present the Centre’s new capabilities and deepen dialogue around future collaboration initiatives, promoting knowledge sharing and the development of projects of mutual interest.

The Centre is also investing in the acquisition of equipment and infrastructure that will significantly expand its capacity for testing, validation, and technological development. In addition to the Wind Tunnel, BIKiNNOV will provide new solutions for crash testing, vibration testing using shaker systems, structural and durability testing, fatigue testing, component and system validation, as well as product development, engineering, and certification support services. These capabilities will enable companies to develop more robust, efficient, and safe products, reducing development time and increasing the reliability of solutions before they enter the market.

This mission falls within the scope of AM2R – Mobilising Agenda for Business Innovation, Project 111 – AM2R Technology and Innovation Centre, PPS 79 – Services for the development of new products (bicycles and components) with highly differentiating characteristics, funded by the PRR and by the European NextGenerationEU funds.
