BIKiNNOV and ABIMOTA represented at international workshop on sustainable mobility in Geneva
BIKiNNOV and ABIMOTA participated in the workshop “Shifting gears: The role of the private sector in advancing clean, healthy, and active mobility”, held as part of the 23rd session of the Steering Committee of the Programme on Environment and Health in Transport (THE PEP) at the Palais des Nations in Geneva, from October 22 to 24, 2025.
The main objective of the event was to highlight the contribution of the private sector to promoting active and sustainable mobility, with a particular focus on cycling mobility and the management of corporate travel. César Coutinho, the technological director of BIKiNNOV, shared Portugal’s experience in promoting sustainable mobility policies and the integration of the private sector into this process.
In his speech, he provided an overview of the initiatives developed in Portugal, including projects such as the Sustainability Framework, Portugal BIKE Value, BIKE UP, AM2R, and GP Abimota, highlighting how these actions align with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). He discussed how the private sector can drive sustainable mobility, from promoting employee home-to-work travel to implementing more eco-efficient processes and integrating bicycles into future cities.
During the Q&A session, he addressed how ABIMOTA views sustainability as a guiding principle for the sector’s future and development, and how the private sector can actively contribute to this transition. He also explored potential future collaboration with THE PEP, emphasizing the role of Portuguese associations and companies in building greener, safer, and more efficient mobility.
BIKiNNOV’s participation in this workshop reinforces its commitment to innovation, sustainability, and the competitiveness of the Portuguese bicycle industry, promoting solutions that benefit both the private sector and society at large.
This participation is part of Action Line 5 – Promotion and Networks, within the Interface Mission – Base Funding for Technology and Innovation Centers, under the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR), funded by the NextGenerationEU European Funds.
