BIKiNNOV leads strategic proposal for the future of mobility at the Science and Innovation Meeting
BIKiNNOV, represented by its Executive Director, David Macário, presented a joint proposal at the 2026 Science and Innovation Meeting organized by the Agency for Research and Innovation (AI²), held in Lisbon on 16 July 2026, bringing together universities, technology centres, business associations, companies and clusters around a common vision to establish mobility, industry and decarbonization as strategic areas for the country’s scientific, technological and economic development.
BIKiNNOV led the presentation of the proposal “Mobility, Industry and Society for a Decarbonized and Smart Economy” at the 2026 Science and Innovation Meeting, as part of the thematic session “Mobility, Robotics and Construction” which aims to identify the funding areas under the Science Law.
The initiative aims to contribute to defining national strategic priorities for research and innovation, promoting an integrated approach encompassing mobility, industry, energy, digitalization and sustainability.
The proposal is the result of a collaborative effort led by BIKiNNOV together with the Telecommunications Institute – Aveiro Hub, the Polytechnic Institute of Coimbra, the STAR Institute, ABIMOTA, the Mobinov Cluster, Ciclofapril and HFA, involving organizations from the scientific and technological system, interface organizations, business associations and companies with a relevant role in the mobility, industry and innovation value chains.

By bringing together universities, technology centres, business associations, companies and clusters, we want to help transform knowledge into innovation, competitiveness and value for the national economy”, says David Macário, Executive Director of BIKiNNOV.
The initiative advocates strengthening scientific and technological investment in solutions capable of accelerating sustainable mobility, the energy transition, the digitalization of production systems and the decarbonization of the economy.
By connecting scientific knowledge, industrial capacity and technology transfer, the proposal seeks to create the conditions to generate economic value, create more highly skilled jobs, strengthen the competitiveness of Portuguese companies and position Portugal in strategic value chains at the European level.
Through this participation, BIKiNNOV strengthens its role as an interface between science, technology and industry, making an active contribution to the development of public research and innovation policies geared towards the country’s economic, environmental and social challenges.
The proposal presented demonstrates that mobility and industry can act as drivers of sustainable transformation, applied innovation and economic development for Portugal.
The event also featured the participation of the Minister of Education, Science and Innovation and the European Commissioner for Startups, Research and Innovation, underscoring the initiative’s strategic importance for the national and European innovation ecosystem.
