Mobility, Technology and the Future of Cities Under Debate: More Than 300 Participants Have Already Taken Part in MobiThinks

What will the cities of the future look like? More human-centered? Smarter? Greener? Safer?

It was from these questions — and the urgent need to rethink the way we move, live, and occupy urban space — that the MobiThinks conference cycle was born. Between April 14 and May 8, the initiative brought together more than 300 participants to discuss some of the biggest challenges facing contemporary mobility.

Over the course of 12 thematic sessions, experts, researchers, companies, public institutions, industry professionals, and citizens debated solutions, trends, and policies capable of transforming mobility into a tool for innovation, inclusion, public health, and environmental sustainability.

More than just a lecture series, MobiThinks established itself as a true platform for collective reflection on the future of cities and mobility in Portugal.

Throughout several weeks, topics such as future city planning, active and cycling mobility, electrification, technology applied to mobility, road safety, data and innovation, climate resilience, well-being, promoting autonomy through cycling, and the impact of mobility on younger generations were at the center of the discussion.

The program featured renowned experts and professionals from different fields, promoting a multidisciplinary and integrated approach to today’s mobility challenges.

The sessions encouraged not only the sharing of technical and scientific knowledge, but also the exchange of practical experiences, public policies, and technological innovation, creating a dynamic and participatory debate environment.

All the work developed throughout this conference cycle will result in the production of a set of scientific articles, based on the various presentations and reflections promoted during the events. These contributions will be included in a collective publication that will be officially launched during the Final MobiThinks Seminar, scheduled for June 30 at the BIKiNNOV facilities.

This moment will mark not only the closing of the conference cycle, but also the public presentation of the results of the study developed within the scope of the initiative, bringing together researchers, experts, policymakers, students, professionals, and the wider community.

Project Closing Seminar – June 30, 2026

The seminar aims to establish itself as a strategic moment for knowledge sharing and discussion about the future paths of sustainable mobility, at a time when cities face increasingly complex challenges related to climate change, urban quality of life, safety, inclusion, and technological innovation.

At a time when mobility is no longer just a matter of transportation, but also a matter of public health, environment, economy, social inclusion, and quality of life, initiatives such as MobiThinks demonstrate the importance of dialogue between academia, companies, institutions, and citizens.

The organization emphasizes that the Final Seminar will be an open space for everyone interested in building more sustainable, intelligent, and human-centered cities.
